I create custom Renaissance-style portraits, combining traditional oil painting techniques with a personal story. Each portrait is hand-painted in oil on canvas and inspired by both the visual language and painting techniques of the Renaissance masters.

You can send me a photograph of the person you would like portrayed, and together we can develop the concept for the painting. You can also choose which objects, plants, flowers or symbolic elements you would like to include.

A flower can represent love, a book knowledge and education, an animal a particular quality or character trait, while a personal object can refer to a meaningful memory or relationship. These elements become part of the visual story of the portrait.

You are also welcome to send me photographs or details from existing artworks as references. If you particularly like the composition, clothing, pose, background or individual elements of a historical painting, these can serve as inspiration for your commissioned portrait.

Traditional Renaissance-Inspired Oil Painting

My aim is not only to recreate the appearance of Renaissance portraiture, but also to approach the painting process through techniques inspired by the period. I work with a traditional, layered approach to oil painting, using carefully built-up layers, glazes, detailed brushwork and light to create depth and a sense of historical character.

The result is not simply a painted photograph, but a carefully composed Renaissance-inspired oil portrait in which the person becomes part of a larger visual and symbolic world.

A Renaissance portrait can communicate far more than physical appearance. Through carefully selected symbols and attributes, a painting can express personality, interests, relationships, memories and values.
